On 16/12/2009 Pinki acting on behalf of Aruna Shanbaug, moved a petition in the Supreme Court saying “It will be an act of mercy to stop giving mashed food and end the life of Aruna Shanbaug who has been immobile for 36 years in a hospital.
The petitioner is kept in this persistent vegetative state by the hospital authorities by feeding her mashed food, which she can hardly digest. She can not speak, hear or see, there is no element of human life in her body.”
Why all this mess, Pinki??.....
"Aruna is not completely brain dead. For instance, she has healthy eyes but cannot see" - in Pinki's own words.
But the Court said it right:
The Supreme Court Bench observed that “Law of the country does not permit a person to die.” because this is the country that borne Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, such.....

'Aruna is the bond that unites us'," the court noted in the verdict.
The entire KEM institute, from the servant team to the doctors, has stood by Aruna.
"And this judgment is our victory.”
"How can a person who understands touch, the sentiments behind the touch, be vegetative,” asked sister-in-charge.
The staff members take pride that despite Aruna being bedridden for more than 37 years, has developed no bedsore.
“Who is Pinki to plead for Aruna? Has she taken care of her even for a day? Has she changed her bed, fed her? We do it every day. Ask her to take care of her for at least a day and then claim to be her friend. "
Moved by the affection and unable to describe it in words, a bench of Justices Markandey Katju and Gyan Sudha Misra said: "They have looked after Aruna for 38 years, day and night. What they have done is simply marvellous. "They feed Aruna, wash her, bathe her, cut her nails, and generally take care of her, and they have been doing this not on a few occasions but day and night," it said.
“We leave our homes behind us and serve Aruna selflessly. For some, she is a sister, for some a daughter, for some a mother. We serve her with our heart — not because it is our duty, but because we love her a lot. Just like we will never ask for death for our near and dear ones, we don't want her to die.”

Doctor's treatment may not do it; but your love & affection will surely cure Aruna one day.
That day, those who wanted Aruna's life to put off shall vanish; but Aruna will live to see it.
